Christian Science is a Bible-based religion founded by Mary Baker Eddy and based on the healing truth Christ Jesus preached and practiced.
Over a century ago, Mary Baker Eddy experienced a full and permanent physical healing to a life threatening accident while reading an account in the Bible of one of Jesus’ healing works. Determined to discover how her healing had occurred, she dedicated herself to the study of the Bible. During this deep period of study, she rediscovered the healing mission of Jesus’ ministry. She named the discovery Christian Science, and eventually established The Mother Church, The First Church of Christ, Scientist, in Boston, Massachusetts. The church was “designed to commemorate the word and works of our Master, which should reinstate primitive Christianity and its lost element of healing.” (Mary Baker Eddy, Church Manual, p. 17) As a branch of The Mother Church, the First Church of Christ, Scientist, Oakhurst, is part of a world-wide movement.
